Every price on this page buys you the band and two side stones, nothing more. Blue Nile's three-stone category page returned six listings on 2026-10-09, and the listings priced as settings, with the center diamond sold separately, came to 6 of 6. Your real total is the setting plus a center diamond you choose on its own. Listed setting prices ran from $1,910 to $5,320, with a median of $4,000. If you want the lowest setting outlay, start with the Tapered Baguette. If you want platinum, there's good news: both platinum settings in the sample were listed below the white gold median. If you want yellow gold, the sample has just one, the Moon ring by Bella Vaughan.

Below, the six sit side by side with a note on who each suits and who should pass. After that come the policy points to confirm before you pay, several of which conflict from one Blue Nile page to another.

Key takeaways

  • •All six three-stone listings in the 2026-10-09 sample are priced as settings only (6 of 6). Budget for the center diamond on top.
  • •Listed setting prices in the sample ran from $1,910 to $5,320, median $4,000. That's a snapshot of Blue Nile's range, not its full catalog.
  • •The two platinum settings in the sample were listed at $2,610 and $3,550, both below the $4,450 median of the three 14k white gold listings.
  • •The Moon ring by Bella Vaughan is the only yellow gold setting and the only bezel setting in the sample.
  • •Blue Nile's policy pages and product listings disagree on the return window, and two of its pages give different free-resizing periods. Get the answers in writing.

What does a Blue Nile three-stone setting cost?

In the six listings Blue Nile's three-stone category page returned on 2026-10-09, the lowest listed price was $1,910, the median $4,000 and the highest $5,320. The three 14k white gold listings had a median of $4,450. Treat this as a snapshot: it's what the page showed that day, not everything Blue Nile sells, and these are listed prices, not what buyers end up paying.

Don't read the carat figure in a ring's name as the size of the finished ring. Going by the listed side-stone weights, it describes the two side stones. A setting named 1/2 ct. tw. gives you roughly half a carat of side diamonds, with the center still to come.

The median falls between the Classic Pear diamond setting and the Elongated Princess, so half this sample costs more than $4,000 before you've picked a center stone. Plan the center diamond as a second, separate purchase from the start.

Which of the six fits your budget and style?

Lowest setting price in the sample: the Tapered Baguette

At $1,910 for the setting alone, this is the cheapest way into the sample. Blue Nile lists it in rhodium-finished 14k white gold, with two baguette side diamonds in a bar setting. Those sides total approximately 0.15 ct, the lightest of the five rings with diamond side stones. Choose it if you want the center stone to carry the ring and the sides to read as clean lines. If you'd rather have side stones with real presence next to the center, skip ahead to the half-carat settings.

Want platinum? The sample's two Classic Pear settings

Both are platinum prong settings with pear-shaped side stones, and both prices cover the setting only. The sapphire version is listed at $2,610. The diamond version is listed at $3,550, with two pear diamonds of about 0.45 ct total. Before you buy the sapphire one, close a gap in its listing: it gives the blue side stones a total carat weight of zero, which can't be the real weight. Ask Blue Nile for the actual size and any treatment details, then compare it with the diamond version.

White gold with bigger side stones: Elongated Princess or Half-Moon

On paper these two are close. Both are rhodium-finished 14k white gold, both are prong set, and both list two side diamonds of about 0.45 ct total, G-H, VS2-SI1. The side-stone shape is what separates them. The Elongated Princess, listed at $4,450, has squared princess sides that pair naturally with a princess, radiant or emerald center. The Half-Moon Sidestone, listed at $5,320 and the highest price in the sample, has half-moons that hug a round or oval center. Let the center shape you have in mind decide this one, not the price gap.

The sample's only yellow gold, and only bezel: Moon by Bella Vaughan

This designer setting is listed at $5,210 in 14k yellow gold, with two half-moon side diamonds of about 0.29 ct total held in a bezel. As a general rule, a bezel wraps metal around the stone's edge, which shields it from knocks but shows a little less of the stone than prongs do. Next to the Half-Moon Sidestone, you get lighter side stones for a similar listed price. So if yellow gold or the bezel look is what you're after, this is your ring in the sample. If you mainly want the most side-diamond weight for your money, it isn't. For more bezel designs, see our 2026 engagement ring trends roundup, where the style features heavily.

Is platinum really pricier than white gold here?

Not in this sample. The sample's two platinum settings were listed at $2,610 and $3,550, both below the $4,450 median of the three 14k white gold listings. That runs against the usual expectation, but it isn't a like-for-like test: the designs and side stones differ, and five listings is a small base. The practical point is narrower. If the Classic Pear design appeals to you, don't rule out platinum on an assumption about price. Compare the specific listings.

Factor in upkeep too. All three white gold listings state a rhodium finish, and rhodium plating generally wears over time and needs redoing to keep that bright white color. Before you buy, ask Blue Nile whether replating is covered and what it costs. Our platinum vs. white gold guide goes further into the maintenance difference.

How much will the center diamond add?

We can't give you a figure: the category sample was settings only, and center diamond prices depend entirely on the stone you pick. Here's what the listings do tell you. Every diamond-sided setting in the sample lists G-H color and VS2-SI1 clarity for its side stones. As general advice, a center graded far from that in either direction can make the sides look mismatched, so start your search near those grades and adjust from there. To see how price climbs with size, read diamond price per carat explained. Weighing lab reports? IGI vs GIA covers the difference.

Thinking of trading up later? Blue Nile's upgrade program offers 100% credit on new diamonds of at least twice the original price. The minimum upgrade is twice the price of your original diamond, and swaps are on a like-for-like basis, meaning lab-grown trades for lab-grown and natural for natural. Upgrade purchases can't be returned or exchanged. If an upgrade is part of your plan, ask Blue Nile which grading labs qualify before you choose the center stone.

What should you confirm with Blue Nile before you pay?

  1. The return window. The return policy page says 30 days from the shipment date, and that the clock begins when your order ships, not when it is delivered. Each of these six product listings shows a longer window. We couldn't establish which one governs, so get the answer in writing.
  2. The free resizing period. The warranty page offers a one-time free resize, up or down two sizes, for up to one year from purchase if the design permits. The protection-plans page says free resizing applies during the first 6 months after purchase. Ask which is correct, and whether your chosen design can be resized at all.
  3. Resizing ends your return option. Blue Nile's policy lists items re-sized after initial purchase among items not eligible for return, so settle the size before anything gets resized. The shipping page says ring sizers typically arrive within five to seven business days.
  4. Keep the grading report. Engagement rings ship with an insurance certificate and diamond grading report. Returns should include the original paperwork, and the policy puts the cost of replacing a missing report at $150.
  5. Free return shipments are limited. The policy allows two complimentary return shipments per customer each year. Beyond that you may pay for return shipping and insurance, and the policy lists an insured label at $30.
  6. Special orders. Blue Nile says it is unable to accommodate changes or cancellations on special order requests, so check whether your setting and center combination counts as one.
  7. Sale terms. On 2026-10-09 Blue Nile's pages advertised The Fall Edit, up to 30% Off Select Jewelry, plus a free gift with $1,500+ purchases, both marked with an asterisk. We couldn't confirm whether either applies to these settings.

Customer service is listed as available 7 days a week, 7 am to 12 am EST, so you can put these questions to Blue Nile directly. For aftercare, Blue Nile warrants against manufacturing defects for as long as you own your jewelry, but the warranty excludes lost, chipped or damaged diamonds or gemstones. A three-stone ring gives you three stones to lose, which makes insurance worth pricing. Blue Nile points customers to Jewelers Mutual, whose cover it describes as against loss, theft, damage and mysterious disappearance–worldwide, and Jewelers Mutual says annual premiums are often a fraction of a percent of the ring's appraised price. Blue Nile also recommends having jewelry inspected every six months. Take that seriously with any of the four prong-set rings here.
