G Color Diamond: The Smart Buyer's Choice

Diamond color is graded from D (Colorless) to Z (Light Yellow). G Color sits right at the top of the "Near Colorless" range (G-H-I-J). It is arguably the best value on the market.

Why G is Great

  • Looks Colorless: To the naked eye, a G color diamond looks white. You would need to hold it next to a D color diamond to see a difference.
  • Price Drop: There is a significant price jump between F (Colorless) and G (Near Colorless). By dropping one grade to G, you save 10-20% without sacrificing aesthetics.
  • Versatile: It looks icy white in Platinum and White Gold. (For Yellow Gold, you can go down to H or I).

When to Avoid G

If you are buying a massive diamond (3 carats+), color becomes more visible. In very large stones, you might want to stick to F or higher if you are extremely color-sensitive. But for a standard 1-2 carat ring, G is perfect.

Where to Inspect

Always view the diamond in 360-degree HD before buying. James Allen lets you compare G color stones side-by-side with D color stones so you can see (or not see) the difference yourself.
